What can you do about it?

So now you know about the problem what can you do about it?

Obviously this isn't a quick fix, have a look around you how much uneeded plastic is there? Getting all this plastic out of the ocean and doing something with it will take time. So why not start with a few easy changes that will decrease the amount of plastic you use.

Go outside and put a two minute timer on your phone. You will be surprised by how much plastic you can pick up.

In the fruit and vegetable area in the supermarket how many things are unnecessarily covered in plastic? Is there something else you can put this produce in other than their plastic bags?

Look through what you bought at the supermarket, how much of it can and can't be recycled? Try and cut out the things that can't be recycled.

Some packaging can be misleading. Even if it says degradable it's still plastic, some eco-friendly plastics aren't quite what they say and need industrial composters, try to look out for these things.

These are the biggest things in plastic pollution chose three and give them up tomorrow, Plastic bottles, Straws, Chippie bags, Cotton buds, plastic bags and wet wipes.

Right now go into your kitchen, grab a fork and put it in your bag. Now you won't need any plastic utensils.

Balloons and latex are a big problem, so why do we use them to decorate, next time you want to decorate your house don't go with balloons and glitter be creative.

Try getting a refillable pen. The amount of pens you throw out will dramatically decrease if you never have to throw it out.

David Katz said it best: You walk into your kitchen and the sink is overflowing, you have a towel and a mop.
